While Chiyoda-ku is best known for being home to the imperial palace, numerous buildings of political importance and being a major office district and centre of commerce especially around Tokyo station with many high rise office complexes, there are several neighbourhoods, Ichigaya, Yotsuya, on the outskirts, and the Bancho area offering a nice local atmosphere. The Kanda area, just north of Tokyo station is another centre of commerce with older and lower rise offices and streets of local food with some low-rise apartments. There are numerous universities in Chiyoda-ku too.
