Major Areas

ginza Chuo-ku has several major areas. Most famous of which is the upscale shopping district of Ginza where numerous brands, including global luxury and fashion houses have their flagship stores. Famously, Uniqlo has a 12-storey building of retail, selling limited edition goods exclusive to the store. New developments in Ginza are some of the most expensive properties in the world. The Nihonbashi area is where many financial groups have offices given proximity to the Bank of Japan and the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Chuo-ku is also home to the now shuttered Tsukiji fish market, which was once one of the world’s biggest fish markets. Despite the closing of the market, there are still many restaurants in the area surrounding the former Tsukiji market. The waterfront areas of Kachidoki and Harumi are relatively new with many new developments in progress.

Investment View

chuo 1 The ultra-luxury properties in Ginza are for those who only want the best. Given the limited supply and unique offering, they often sell for top prices and sometimes trade in the 1-3% yield range. Mainly for investment rather than rental yield. The waterfront Kachidoki and Harumi are seeing construction of numerous new high-rise apartments. While they are in Chuo-ku, the availability of land and new supply and connectivity by public transport not being the best is reflected in the pricing. However, if one has a long investment horizon and, it may be worthwhile to invest here while collecting decent rental yield.
